How to get started:

- Choose a word connected to a clear, repeatable action, object, or routine.

- Record the word using your normal speaking voice.

- Place the button near the location where the word is naturally used.

- Press the button yourself immediately before performing the associated action.

- Model the word consistently without forcing your pet to press.

- Reward curiosity and intentional interaction calmly.

- Introduce additional words gradually after your pet understands the routine.

Choose words that are useful, easy to demonstrate, and relevant to your pet’s actual life. Starting with “existential dread” may be emotionally honest, but it is not especially actionable.

 

Training notes:

- Button learning is not instant and results vary widely between animals.

- Some pets may begin interacting quickly, while others need weeks or months of consistent modeling.

- A button press should be interpreted within context rather than automatically treated as proof of a complex thought or sentence.

- Do not punish random presses, mistakes, or lack of interest.

- Keep training sessions positive, brief, and voluntary.

- Placement and compatibility

- Place HexTiles on a clean, flat, stable indoor surface.

- Connect tiles using the interlocking edges to create an organized layout.

- Leave enough room around the board for your pet to approach and press comfortably.

- Avoid placing the system near stairs, doorways, water bowls, or other areas where it could create a tripping or slipping hazard.

- Buttons arrive with pre-installed LR44/AG13 alkaline batteries.

- Battery life varies based on recording length, playback frequency, storage conditions, and use.

- Replace batteries only with the type specified by the manufacturer.

 

Safety notes:

- Supervise your pet while introducing and using the buttons.

- Do not allow chewing, biting, or destructive play with the buttons, tiles, stickers, or batteries.

- Inspect all components regularly for cracks, loosened parts, damaged battery compartments, or other wear.

- Discontinue use immediately if a button opens or a battery becomes accessible.
